Brave Louisiana Teen Rescues Family and Horse in Shocking Hit-and-Run Crash
A Louisiana teen single-handedly saved her entire family and horse after a terrifying car accident.

The Gilpin family was traveling home from a rodeo competition in Mississippi when they were struck by a white pickup truck near Slidell on I-59. The impact sent them flying off the road with a 12,000-pound horse trailer and all. The trailer holding their horse Whiskey broke loose from the vehicle and landed near the canal below.
Mia, only 14, who was asleep in the backseat, jumped into action immediately, breaking windows, calling 911, and leading her parents to safety simultaneously.
"I found my phone and called 911, and while I was on the phone with 911 I found a window and I kicked out the window to get us out, and I told my parents I found a way out, follow me," Mia told WBRZ.
Once she made sure her parents were safe she started swimming through the canal to get to her horse, Whiskey.
"I had to swim through the water to get to him, and I had to open the door in the water to get to him, I really don't know how I did it. Once I got in there I saw that he was stepping through the glass windows and was cut up, and he was shaking and was scared. I was just sitting there trying to talk to him because I know if I tried to rush him out he would get hurt."
The Gilpin family says 'by the grace of God' Whiskey only needs medicine and time to heal but will be ready to ride again soon.
But what about the driver responsible? The Gilpin family says it was a hit and run.
"I'm also disgusted that the person who hit us didn't stop. They're driving around again, potentially putting someone else in danger."
Anyone with information about the driver responsible for this car accident is asked to contact Louisiana State Police.
