Louisiana Travelers to Get Free Checked Bags From This Airline

(KPEL-FM) - Do you remember a few days ago when Southwest Airlines made the gut-wrenching news that it would be getting rid of its free checked bag policy?

(Okay, maybe not gut-wrenching to you but I sure felt it in my soul.) Well, it appears a competitor of theirs took notes and is trying to capitalize on an opportunity.

Frontier Airlines has announced it will soon be offering free carry-ons and free check bags.

For right now, it's only for the summer. However, depending on customer feedback, Frontier may make it a permanent perk.

The company made the announcement in a news release on Tuesday, seemingly taking aim at Southwest Airlines.

“Some airlines are walking away from what travelers love, but we’re running towards it,” Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines, said in the statement. “Think of this as the ultimate ‘divorce your old airline’ deal. If travelers show us the love, we’ll make these perks permanent.”

What will the Frontier Airlines free bag policy look like?

This free bag policy is part of Frontier's Economy Bundle, which includes a free carry-on, free seat selection, and free flight changes.

It is for a limited time for now. For all bookings for nonstop travel now through August 18, Frontier flyers will receive the Economy Bundle for free. The Economy Bundle must be selected at the time you purchase your flight.

Flyers can also get a free checked bag for flights departing May 28 and August 18. You'll simply need to use promo code "FREEBAG" to score that deal.

Hurry, this offer from Frontier Airlines ends soon.

If you want in on these deals, you'll have to act soon. Flights must be booked between now and March 24.

Where can I find Frontier Airlines in Louisiana?

The only city in Louisiana in which Frontier Airlines operates out of in the Bayou State is New Orleans from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

The airline did fly a limited number of flights out of Lafayette at one time, but that is no longer the case.
