National Tourism Week kicks off on May 2nd and will last till May 10th. And Iberia Parish will welcome Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne to Shadows-on-the-Teche on New Iberia's Historic Main Street on Monday, May 4th as Louisiana celebrates the week as well.

At the press conference, Dardenne will discuss the importance of tourism in the economy and local communities. And, as Fran Thibodeaux, executive director of Iberia Parish Convention and Visitors Bureau, says tourism brings in millions to Iberia Parish alone.

"A positive cycle of tourism growth continues," Thibodeaux explains. "In 2012 visitors spent $44.3 million in Iberia Parish and contributed $2 million and $800,000, respectively, to state and local coffers."

Thibodeaux also announces the expansion of an already popular tourism experience, which will make it even better.

"The new Avery Island experience is coming soon!" exclaims Thibodeaux. "Visitors can currently sample the best Cajun dishes on a TABASCO® Food Tour and soon, the TABASCO® Factory will have an expanded tour, new visitor center and Creole-cottage cafeteria-style restaurant. Jungle Gardens will also be making its trek more interactive. These expansions are what helps tourism grow for our communities."
