
Police Give Update on Major Vehicle Crash Involving a Pedestrian in Lafayette
The Lafayette Police Department has provided an update on the major vehicle crash involving a pedestrian that occurred late last night on S. College Road.
According to the preliminary on-scene investigation, the incident happened around 10:18 PM in the 100 block of S. College Road. Vehicle #1 was traveling northbound in the outside lane when it struck Pedestrian #1, who was walking in the same lane. The driver reported that she did not see the pedestrian until it was too late to avoid the collision. Despite applying the brakes, the vehicle hit the pedestrian.
Pedestrian #1 was immediately transported to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center (LGMC) for treatment. Medical staff have confirmed that the pedestrian, who is currently listed in critical condition, sustained several facial fractures. Fortunately, there are no internal injuries reported at this time.
Driver #1 was also taken to the Lafayette Police Department, where she voluntarily provided a breath sample. The results of the test showed a 0.00% Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). The driver is cooperating fully with authorities, and the crash remains under active investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
The incident has sparked concerns about pedestrian safety on busy roads like S. College Road, especially during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced. Lafayette residents are urged to exercise caution, whether driving or walking, to prevent such tragic accidents.
