Mississippi Man Accused Of Stealing Mardi Gras Parade Float
COVINGTON, La. (AP) — A Mississippi man is accused of stealing a Mardi Gras parade float two days before it was to roll in a New Orleans suburb.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said it got a warrant Friday to arrest 29-year-old Orlando Lyons of Biloxi on a felony theft charge.
The statement says Lyons claims he bought or rented the Covington Lions Club float, but hasn't provided evidence.
He couldn't be reached for comment.
The float was taken Sunday from the group's parking lot.
The theft was reported Monday, and the sheriff's office asked its Facebook followers, "Have you seen this float ?"
The news release says a relative of Lyons called that day, saying he had asked for help with the float and it was at the relative's house.
