President Obama signs a new food safety bill into law--the first in 50 years. President Barack Obama has signed the new food safety bill into law. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the bill will give the Food and Drug Administration new authority to protect the public. Commissioner Strain says the new regulations should have a minimal impact on food prices when compared to the increase in food safety. Strain says the new law is written to regulate the large commercial operations and should not intrude on your local farmer's market or fruit stand.
