No Injuries At Lafayette Apartment Fire
There was an apartment fire around 8:40 last night at Plantation Apartments located in the two hundred block of Liberty Avenue. Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan reports that witnesses reported the blaze to firefighters.
Trahan says when firefighters arrived, witnesses told them that they had seen the smoke was coming from an apartment on the third floor. Firefighters were able to finally get into the apartment in building 10. Firefighters then found that the fire was actually on the patio of the apartment.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within about fifteen minutes. The patio sustained heavy fire damage. Fortunately, the fire did not make it into the inside of the apartment, and the fire did not burn any other apartment units.
The man who lives at that apartment, Don Pyle, was not home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported. Fire investigators say the fire started on the patio of the third floor apartment, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
