NOLA Mayor: Tiger Stadium Sounds Good For Saints, For Now
New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell has had a pretty rough year. Her city has been hit big time by the coronavirus pandemic, there were several deaths during Mardi Gras parades, and, of course dealing with the Hard Rock Hotel collapse and subsequent fiasco. So when she stood firm that the New Orleans Saints football team would have to play their home games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome without fans, the backlash was pretty drastic.
But, according to WWL, today in a news conference, she gave hope to those who had expressed earlier in the week that the Saints might do well to travel down I-10 to Baton Rouge and play at LSU's Tiger Stadium. Oh yeah, and have actual fans in attendance. Cantrell's reservations about having 20,000 or more fans in one place at one time do not include the fact that she wants the Saints to do well this season, wherever they play. After talking to the Saints organization and Baton Rouge mayor Sharon Broome, Cantrell stated to WWL today, when asked about the move "I don't have any concerns with that at all. That could be a great place temporarily. It is an outdoor stadium, and they're allowing fans in the stadium. Right now, there is no way to allow 20,000 fans in the stands at this time."
The Saints will have a bye week coming up, but for the last two games they have allowed about 750 family members of staff, players, and coaches to attend the home games. Their first home game was played with no fans at all. Let's hope they can all come to an agreement about what is best for everyone real soon. Who Dat!
