Lafayette Police are investigating an incident that led to a man being shot and killed while driving his car. Lafayette Police spokesperson Cpl. Paul Mouton says officers responded to a crash at the intersection of West Simcoe and University Avenue. There they found 49-year-old Michael Davis in his vehicle dead, as the result of a gunshot wound.

During the investigation, police discovered Davis was involved in a disturbance with a woman on West Willow Street. When the woman fled the area in a car, Davis pursued her in his own vehicle. As the two cars approached the intersection at Simcoe and University, Davis fired multiple shots at the woman's vehicle. His vehicle eventually travelled off the road and struck a tree. It is still unclear how Davis was shot.

The woman suffered minor injuries, and the case is still under investigation.
