Planned Power Outage For Several Areas Tuesday
There are several areas that will be impacted by a planned power outage that will be performed by a company that owns the power grids in those areas.
Mary Laurent, Communications Coordinator with SLEMCO, says that customers from their company will be impacted by the upgrades being done by another company.
The power outage will start on Tuesday evening, November 17 at 11:30 p.m., and it will last through Wednesday morning at 4:30 a.m.
Laurent points out that companies do these various upgrades in order to help maintain the grid so that other, bigger interruptions won't happen.
The following is a list of the towns that will be impacted by the planned outage:
- Big Cane
- Godeau
- Palmetto
- Dupont
- Bayou Jack
- Morrow
- LeBeau
- Grand Prairie
- Tate Cove
- Belair Cove
- Frilot Cove
- Faubourg
- Plaisance
- Outlying area of Washington
- Outlying area of Beggs
- Outlying area of Whiteville
Some 5,700 customers of SLEMCO will be impacted by the outage, and some customers from other utilities.
If you are a SLEMCO customer, you are being notified that this is happening either by phone or email, but they want to also make the announcement via the media so that everyone is aware of what will begin tomorrow night and run through several hours of Wednesday morning.
This type of outage is needed to help the over grid capacity.
You do not need to report to SLEMCO that your power is off since this is a planned event.
So, please expect and plan for your utilities to be off from 11:30 Tuesday night into Wednesday morning at about 4:30.
It might be a good idea to make sure that your cell phone is fully charged, and that you make sure you have an alarm set.
