ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Alexandria Mayor Jacques M. Roy will be the host of "A Summit on SPARC: Transforming Alexandria into a 21st Century City" on Monday and Tuesday.

SPARC is the city's $96 million Special Planned Activity Redevelopment Corridors infrastructure initiative. It is seen as a way of looking at urban renewal, community planning and public safety.

According to Sunday's Town Talk, the mayor says the meeting will focus on moving Alexandria forward, using strategies such as "smart growth" and "safe growth.

Roy says this summit is about using some of the nation's best experts as well as Alexandria's in planning to share solutions and then implement them.
