Rep. Clay Higgins Tells CNN Face Masks Are ‘Dehumanization of the Children of God’
As we all try to navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic, certain CDC suggested guidlines have become pretty polarizing topics. Face masks are certainly one of the more heated topics of debate. Representative Clay Higgins expressed his opinion to CNN yesterday (05/29/20) challenging the effectiveness of wearing face masks in an effort to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Higgins spoke with CNN Thursday (05/29/20) about the group of politicians who are currently refusing to wear face masks in Congressional meetings, in the Capitol, or on the chamber floor.
Higgins asked CNN "Can you smell through that mask? Then you're not stopping any sort of a virus. It's part of the dehumanization of the children of God. You're participating in it by wearing a mask. What you're wearing is a bacteria trap; it's not helping your health or anybody else's."
The CDC reports that viruses cannot be carried through smell. Viruses like COVID-19 are transmitted through saliva or mucus that can spray from someone's mouth and nose when they sneeze, cough or even just talk.
Capitol physician, Dr. Brian Monahan, has been constantly pleading with members of Congress to wear masks given the difficulty of social distancing when Congress is in session.
Now, I am certainly not here to point a finger at Higgins or anyone who chooses to not wear a face mask in public. Personally, sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't, depending on the situation. I have no soapbox to get on regarding wearing masks, I just want all of you to stay safe and well, and please just do what you can to help keep others safe.
