The New Orleans Saints were dealt a blow when their number one cornerback, Delvin Breaux, was diagnosed with a broken fibula in training camp.

Breaux underwent surgery for the broken fibula in August. His doctor told him that he should be able to get back out on the playing field around week 8.

Last year, Breaux suffered a broken fibula in the first game of the season. He returned in week 9. According to NOLA.com, with more time to heal this time around, Breaux says that he feels better than he did last year.

He wouldn't be immediately eligible to jump into a playing position, as he was placed on Injured Reserve. This allows the team to put two of those players back onto the roster. That would be him being eligible in week 9. However, he is allowed to return to practice this week.

Whether that will happen or not is still undetermined, as Sean Payton declined to comment on Breaux's status.

The Saints secondary has been performing greatly over the last few weeks. So where does Breaux fit in scheme? According to Breaux, wherever they need him.

"I want what's best for the team," he said. "I want to win. Coming in at the right time right now while we're rolling, I think it's going to be perfect. But I love the way those guys are playing out there. We've just got to keep going and keep being great."
