With Training Camp underway for the Ragin' Cajun football team, Tootie Landry decided to find out what the new team motto "Sharpen Your Blade" really means. So she caught up with Rusty Whitt, the Strength and Conditioning Coach, in this edition of "Not Necessarily The News."

"Hey! I’m Tootie Landry and this is what I found out today! With the new theme of Ragin' Cajun Football being 'Sharpen Your Blade,' I thought I would head over to Cajun football practice and talk to Coach Rusty Whitt. You remember Coach Whitt, the guy wearing sunglasses at the New Orleans Bowl with blood streaming down his face?

Since my blade is pretty sharp, I’m going to see if Coach needs any pointers in strength and conditioning! After all I know someone who bought a P90X video, I shop at Academy, and I’ve been watching the Olympics!

Oh wow! I quickly realize I’m out of my league! He’s Bruce Lee meets Jason Bourne! When I asked him the question about the meaning of “Sharpen Your Blade,” he stated, “It’s a mentality we have, to create an environment that’s theatrical to fight complacency.” I can’t even spell those words! When I asked him what’s the hardest exercise he has for the Cajuns, he responded, “Partner Protect the House.” It’s an exhausting exercise where every football player runs every inch of the stadium at Cajun Field.

And finally, I think Coach Whitt’s grandmother said it best when she said, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” In that case, I better get back to watching the Olympics so I can stay in shape! And I’m Tootie Landry and this is “Not Necessarily the News!”
