Shoot The Ducks, Not The Whooping Cranes!
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking duck hunters to take a little extra time to identify their targets before they shoot and please don't shoot the whooping cranes.
For comparison, photos of the whooping cranes are posted online at wlf-dot-Louisiana-dot-gov/wildlife/whooping cranes. LDWF migratory bird expert Larry Reynolds says duck hunters should easily be able to distinguish these birds are not for shooting. Duck season opened in western Louisiana today and opens in the eastern part of the stat next Saturday.
