South Louisiana Community College is offering JAVA programming classes as part of its continuing education curriculum.

Christine Payton, spokesperson for the college, said the three information technology companies moving into Lafayette served as the impetus for starting the classes, which prepare students for national certifications.

"There's definitely a need for support personnel," Payton said.  "We want to prepare people to go and get those jobs."

Classes, which are $599 and are held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., start on Feb. 24. For more information, call Margaret Beard at 373-5105.
