The St. Landry Parish Council will have to make a decision about cellphones at meetings coming up later this month.

The issue of whether or not council members should be allowed to have their cellphones at meetings was raised at last week's Public Work and Finance Committee meetings by a councilman.

Councilman Wayne Ardoin says officials ask anyone attending the meeting to silence their phones, but it doesn't always happen.

Ardoing says right now parish's courts ban them, and he thinks the same rules should apply at council meetings.

St. Landry Parish President Bill Fontenot says even if the measure passes, he plans to veto the measure.
