The District Attorney of St. Landry Parish has now filed a petition to remove a St. Landry Parish School Board member.  D-A Earl Taylor's petition seeks the removal of School Board member Quincy Richard due to his 2004 felony conviction.

District Attorney Taylor's move to file the petition is happening in the shadow of a unrelated federal bribery charge for allegedly asking a candidate for superintendent to $5,000 to secure Richard's vote of support.

Taylor's petition has to do with Richard's 2004 plea to a charge of filing false records in an investigation into the buying of degrees from Southern University.  At that time, there were allegations that many people had been able to buy grades and degrees from the university.

Taylor's argument is that Richard never did get a governor's pardon.  It's required for Richard to hold public office.
