GONZALES, La. (AP) — Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office records show state Sen. Troy Brown, D-Geismar, faces a domestic abuse battery charge.

The sheriff's office said in a statement deputies were called to Brown's Geismar home Sunday night "after receiving reports from his wife that he became irate and bit her on the forearm."

Local news outlets reports the 44-year-old Brown was released Monday after posting a $5,000 bond.

Brown's arrest comes about eight months after authorities in New Orleans arrested him in another domestic abuse case. In that case, authorities said Brown punched a woman in the eye during an argument.

Court records show Brown pleaded not guilty to simple battery in his November arrest. His trial date was continued to September.

Jail records did not list an attorney for Brown.
