Superdome Now Boasts Largest Of Their Kind End Zone Screens
For a lot of New Orleans Saints fans putting the words "screen" and " end zone" in the same sentence brings to mind botched blocking assignments a significant loss of yardage instead of an end zone celebration for the Black and Gold.
However, this year the words "end zone" and "screen" will come to mean something totally different for fans who attend Saints football games in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Saints unveiled what that are calling "the largest of their kind in the NFL" video boards last night a special preview party for season ticket holders and invited guests. The boards 333 feet high and 38 feet wide. To put that into stadium perspective they span the length of four Superdome stadium sections.
If you're wondering how these screens compare to the giant monitors that hang above the field in Dallas where the Cowboys play they are actually larger. Each screen in the Superdome covers 12,654 square feet. The big screens where the Cowboys play only cover a paltry 11,520 square feet. Not everything is bigger in Texas.
Officials with the Saints say the large screens are part of a $25 million investment by Saints ownership to improve the fan experience at the games. Based on reviews from those who attended last nights sneak peak you will be impressed.
Most of us will get our first peak at the new screens when the Saints play their third preseason football game this Friday night in the Superdome. The game will pit the Black and Gold against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kickoff for the Saturday game is at 7 PM.
