Three suspects in a rash of pharmacy burglaries in Duson, Scott, and Marksville have been arrested.

On December 17, 2010 the business of Scott Pharmacy was burglarized during the early morning hours before sunlight. During the burglary several hundred prescription Lortab and Xanax were stolen. The intruders made entry by kicking out the front glass door.

On December 19, 2010 Meche’s Pharmacy in Duson was burglarized during the morning hours. The items stolen were the same as Scott Pharmacy and entry was also the same.

On December 20, 2010 at approximately 4:00 AM a Duson Police Officer was patrolling the City of Duson and while passing in front of the pharmacy realized the front glass door was shattered. The Duson officer then observed a subject running from the area. The officer took chase to the subject on foot whom was then apprehended. The subject, Morgan Brown of Mansura, was then placed under arrest by Duson Police Department. 

Investigators with Duson Police Department were aware that Scott Police were working a Pharmacy Burglary so they contacted Scott City Police Investigators to inform them a suspect was apprehended in Duson.

Both Duson and Scott City Police Investigators at this time conducted interviews with Mr. Brown. Investigators were able to get information on a possible suspect who committed the burglary of Scott Pharmacy and Meche’s Pharmacy the previous night.  Mr. Brown was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail by Duson Police on listed charges.

Upon being incarcerated in Lafayette Parish Jail, Investigators with assistance from Lafayette Sheriffs Office were able to determine that two other suspects were involved in the pharmacy burglary when Mr. Brown was captured. From the information obtained Scott City Police obtained an arrest warrant for a, Matthew Pierite of Marksville, charging him with the burglary of Scott Pharmacy.

Investigators worked throughout the day and obtained a description of the car the other two suspects were possibly driving. At approximately 6:00 PM officers located a vehicle parked near the jail occupied by two male subjects.  In the car was, Matthew Pierite and a Cavin Hayes of Mansura. The two subjects stated they were waiting for a friend to get out of jail.  Both subjects were advised that they were under arrest for the pharmacy burglary in Duson. With an additional burglary charge added to Mr. Pierite for the Scott Pharmacy. The two subjects were both patted down and additional charges were placed on both for marijuana possession due to marijuana located on both persons. Both subjects were booked into Lafayette Parish Jail.

During the investigation information obtained suggested that evidence from the previous burglaries could be found at Mr. Pierite’s residence. Matthew Pierite lived on an Indian Reservation in Marksville, La.. Investigators with Scott and Duson Police had to coordinate with the FBI in order to obtain a Federal Search Warrant for the residence of Mr. Pierite. The Search Warrant uncovered evidence such as empty pharmacy pill bottles which are said to have come from the Scott Pharmacy and a possible handgun carried by one of the suspects in the Duson Burglary.

The investigation is still ongoing and Scott Police are attempting to locate a second suspect in the burglary at Scott Pharmacy.
