I remember my mother telling me and my siblings that we needed to eat all of our vegetables otherwise we would stay short and our teeth would fall out. I guess she was kind of right?

A very picky British teen eater has eaten his way to blindness. According to a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine a horrid diet can cause you to have permanently impaired vision.

According to a press release from the University of Bristol in England “the patient had consumed a limited diet of chips, crisps, white bread, and some processed pork,”. I guess my niece's diet of chicken nuggets and goldfish could be worse?

The press release went on to indicate that it was too late for doctors to intervene “By the time the patient’s condition was diagnosed, the patient had permanently impaired vision.”

In short, the horrid diet that the teenager had caused a vitamin B12 deficiency, low copper and selenium levels, a high zinc level, a reduced vitamin D level and bone mineral density. All of these deficiencies caused nutritional optic neuropathy. A condition that can lead to permanent blindness.

Parents, this is your reminder, make those kids eat everything on their plate. We can't imagine what the teenager patient must be thinking or feeling. Did his parents try to step in and warn him?
