Texas Cellphones to Fall Under Federal Control in Fall of 2025
(Washington DC) -Texas cellphone users might soon not be able to make a call and send a text when they want to. It doesn't matter whether you're in a big city like Dallas, Houston, or Austin. Or, you're making calls and sending texts from smaller towns such as Lufkin, Longview, and Tyler. No matter where you are in Texas if that phone is connected to cell service through an authorized provider you might be losing control of that device.
Reports of a federal takeover of cellular communications have been bubbling since 2023 and it appears as though the Fall of 2025 is the most likely time such an event would occur. No, this doesn't appear to be a long-term takeover nor does it appear to have any sinister overtones.
A similar event happened in 2023 and many Texas cellphone customers were quite shocked and upset when they lost the ability to manipulate the numbers and data on their mobile devices. Based on what we are learning today, a federal law has been enacted that requires the federal government to take such an action.
All Cellular Devices in Texas Will Be Included
When the first "takeover event" happened in 2023 many of you contacted us to see if the actions taken on their cell phones were legitimate. They were. The next question many of you asked was "How can this be legal". The answer to that question we've already answered, they passed a law. And if you're wondering who "they" is I am speaking of the Congress and the President.
The next question many of you asked following the 2023 event was "Can I opt out"? As much as we'd like to suggest that your rights as an American would allow you to do so, it does not appear as though you can. The only way to "opt out" or not have your device controlled by the feds is to disconnect that device from any cellular service provider. However, if your device is still connected to Wi-Fi there is a possibility you could still be wrapped up in the federal takeover plan.
The Feds Do Not Want Your Data, Photos, or Messages
However, the Federal Government and the State of Texas do want your attention. And that is exactly what this "takeover" is all about. The takeover that occurred in 2023 happened in October of that year. You might remember that every mobile phone within earshot released a startling alert tone and message.
We can expect a similar result in the fall of this year when FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency once again runs a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. The EAS as it's known is a communication system that allows government officials on the state, federal, and even local levels to communicate with you via commercial broadcast outlets, cable systems, and now cellular devices.
The event that is scheduled for the Fall of 2025 will likely take over your device with a short but attention-getting tone and a text message informing you that your device was successfully included as part of the EAS Network.
This is nothing sinister. It's nothing evil. It's a test, only a test. And it really shouldn't last more than a minute or two. So if you receive that test, think of it as a good thing. That way in the event of an actual emergency you'll have important information to protect life and property.
