School is back in session across Texas. At least most of our public school systems across the state have invited students back to class. Meanwhile, many of our state's universities and colleges are preparing to welcome their student body back next week. I believe the Aggies of Texas A&M are already back in class while the Longhorns at U.T. Austin won't officially start until next Monday.

Naturally, when kids go back to school that means mom and dad have to go back to the store. One of the biggest back-to-school retailers in the nation is Walmart. Heck, Walmart is just big in general. Last quarter the retail giant upped its profits by 4.87% for a mind-boggling gross revenue figure of $169.34 billion.

Of course, to earn that kind of money you have to be smart about the way you run your business and Walmart's top-of-the-house appears to have locked on to a strategy that many Texas shoppers are finding favor with.

What is Walmart's New Pricing Policy in Louisiana?

Y'all get ready, this is going to blow your mind. Walmart has figured out that Texas shoppers have a better experience when the prices aren't so high. I know, my mind was blown too. Seriously, Walmart has been watching consumer pain points and their strategy appears to be this. We'll save people money where we can and where we can't we won't.

To illustrate that point Walmart executives have announced a price reduction on more than 7,200 items across various categories in the store. In an earnings class last week Walmart CEO Doug McMillion told those gathered that the company was excited to see some grocery prices coming down.

McMillion, in his comments, suggested that some products, particularly dry goods, and processed foods still maintain a higher-than-average price. Among the items that wouldn't likely be seeing a price reduction in the near term were eggs, dairy products, sugar, and meat. However, pet foods, some fruits, sporting goods, and certain lawn and garden items are costing less than they did in previous months.

The giant retailer also noted that its online sales were showing signs of positive growth with nearly one-fifth of Walmart's sales being finalized online. Company leadership hopes the rollback on prices and the convenience of online shopping will continue to spur growth for the company.

And just because we live and work in the "world of reasonable people" it's important that while we applaud Walmart's decision to lower prices on some 7,200 items in each of its stores, the typical Walmart location offers over 120,000 items so they're only lowering the prices on approximately 6% of the store's inventory.

That means if you want to save money, you're probably going to have to do some serious looking while you're shopping. But at least we are catching some price breaks, right?
