October is National Down Syndrome Month. A month to spread awareness about Down Syndrome and make others aware of their abilities and accomplishments. It’s not about celebrating disabilities, it’s about celebrating abilities.

The Down Syndrome Association of Acadiana announces the 16th Annual Buddy Walk - Virtual Style. You can help raise money to support local and national programs and to promote acceptance and inclusion of those with Down syndrome.

The Buddy Walk may be different this year but their mission is the same! The safety and health of their members and the community is a top priority.

Teams will have 21 days to “Walk Your Way” with family and friends in whatever location you would like. It could be in your neighborhood, local park, your favorite nature trail, or wherever you choose from October 10th through October 31st.  Why 21 days? Well, 21 signifies the 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome.

There will also be a car parade on October 31st from 10 am until noon at The Bayou Church located at 2234 Kaliste Saloom Road. You can join in from the comfort of your vehicle and celebrate all individuals with Down Syndrome by cheering them on.

Go to DSAABuddyWalk.com and register as an individual or team. The Virtual walks take place anytime between October 1st – 31st. It’s $20 per person and $10 per pet. For more information, call 234-3109.
