D.R.E.A.M.S. Support Group For Dads of Special Needs Children
A support group for dads of children or adults with special needs is now available in Acadiana. The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation of Acadiana launched this support group to give dads a place to gather and discuss topics that impact daily living related to caring for a loved one with simple or complex medical conditions, including epilepsy, autism, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, and more.
These meetings are for dads only. Dads are asked to attend without their children, spouses or significant others, or caregivers. This is so that all dads can have discussions in a comfortable setting.
D.R.E.A.M.S. Founder and Executive Director, Brian Watkins, said in a press release that DREAMS started a support group for moms at the beginning of the year and it has been a great success. They decided to start one for dads because they saw a need in the special needs community for people to reach out and talk about their concerns with other parents going through similar circumstances.
