According to the report, Vaughn Savoy, 63-years-old, and Jamie Simar, 30-years-old, went inside of the Acadiana Mall on February 15, 2021 when the mall was closed to customers due to the state of emergency.
The incident happened in the evening and the investigation showed that the two suspects entered through a door to the mall that may or may not have been unlocked. The pair did most of their looting at kiosks where they took phone cases, Apple Air Pods, loose change, and other merchandise that totaled over $1,000.
The report goes on to detail that Simar and Savoy left the mall and were involved in a traffic accident near St. Martinville and Cade where State Police officers responded and noticed the merchandise inside of the vehicle. Further questioning led to the two suspects admitting that the items were stolen from the Acadiana Mall.
With bonds set at $25,000, Simar and Savoy have been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
While I am not well versed in the world of crime, I know one thing is for sure... If you are a criminal, the last thing you want to do is get in a car accident while fleeing the scene. So remember to buckle up and drive safe, everyone, especially if you have a backseat full of stolen merchandise.
