The Public Health Department says that approximately 200 people at Lafayette High School will need to be tested for possible exposure to tuberculosis.  This comes after the discovery that there was a possible case of the disease with someone that has ties to the school.

The Lafayette Parish School System notified Lafayette High parents Tuesday of the suspected tuberculosis case at the school.  Students who might be a risk of being exposed to the possible tuberculosis case were sent home with a letter this week about the exposure.

Dr. Tina Stefanski, regional public health director, says testing of these individuals is just a precaution, but it must be done.

The testing will take place Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Tuberculosis is a lung disease that can be transmitted by sharing the same space with an infected person for an extended period of time.
