Two Perish In House Fire

Fire departments from several surrounding areas were called out to battle a blaze at a home in the 700 block of Colorado Road in Lafayette Parish yesterday afternoon.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan says that 48-year-old Howard Shows and 50-year-old Jennifer Westbrooks were found dead in the home.

The circumstances surrounding what caused the fire is being investigated, and Trahan says that the bodies of Shows and Westbrooks have been turned over to the Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office.

When firefighters got to the scene, the whole home was engulfed in flames.

They ended determining that the fire did start in a rear bedroom on the home on Colorado Road.

Three pets also died in this fire.

Officials with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office along with officials from the Lafayette Fire Department will be investigating the circumstances around the deaths and the fire.

Firefighters from Judic, Scott and Duson were able to respond to the blaze, and they helped to extinguish it.
