UL Honors Educators With Eminent Faculty Awards

Several members of the faculty at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette were honored with the 2020 Eminent Faculty Awards.

This year's crop of those being honored during the annual awarding includes five recipients.

This year, the following people being bestowed an award are as follows:

• Dr. Salah Massoud, Distinguished Professor Award
• Dr. Mark Zappi, Distinguished Professor Award
• Lisa Delhomme, Dr. Ray P. Authement Excellence in Teaching Award
• Dr. Dianne Olivier, Dr. Ray P. Authement Excellence in Teaching Award
• Dr. Geoffrey Steward, Leadership in Service Award

The decision about who will be receiving an award is based on recommendations from faculty members. Each person who receives an award will also be receiving a $5,000 stipend.

Vice President for University Advancement and the UL Foundation CEO John Blohm says,

The Eminent Faculty Awards recognize a group of educators whose dedication in the classroom, as researchers, and to community engagement through service learning exemplifies the University's core academic mission. The University looks forward to being able to honor these exceptional recipients when it is safe for us to gather again.

The ceremony that is held annually had to be postponed because of Governor John Bel Edwards' "Stay at Home" order due to the Coronavirus.

So many events to recognizing outstanding people in our community have been postponed because of the virus.

In the press release, details were given about each of the educators.

Lisa Delhomme directs the Health Information Management Program under the College of Nursing. She is the recipient of numerous awards, and is currently serving on the American Health Information Management Association's Council for Excellence.

Dr. Dianne Olivier heads up the doctoral program in the College of Education. She is an endowed professor under the Joan D. and Alexander S. Haig/BORSF Endowed Professorship in Education. She is also a Jackson Scholar Mentor.

Dr. Salah Massoud is a chemistry professor in the College of Sciences. The Swiss National Foundation named him to a research associate fellowship. He researches various area of chemistry aimed at combating cancer and atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Dr. Geoffrey Stewart is an associate professor of marketing under the College of Business Administration. He is also the endowed chair in regional business development under the Moody Company/BORSF Eminent Scholar.
