NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Merritt C. Becker University of New Orleans Transportation Institute and the Port of New Orleans will partner for transportation research and workforce development projects targeting growth of the maritime industry.

Gary Lagrange, president of the state-run port, said the agreement will help promote economic development throughout the maritime community on the lower Mississippi River.

The port will provide facility space, personnel time, equipment and software.

The Transportation Institute focuses on the role of transportation in sustainable development. It is directed by UNO associate professor John Renne.
