Walmart To Make Multi-Million Dollar Investment Into LA Locations

Walmart is investing an estimated $73 million into remodeling 15 stores in Louisiana. Four of those stores are in the New Orleans area and two in the Baton Rouge area. Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield said the goal of the investment in technology innovations is to help save customers’ time and money.

“And to invest in our associates with training and these new tools to help save them time so they can better help our customers,” said Hatfield.

Shreveport, Natchitoches, Minden, Leesville, Winnsboro, Thibodaux and Mansura are also among the stores seeing the upgrades.

Hatfield said among the innovations, Walmart is adding autonomous shelf scanning to help with inventory, grocery pickup and delivery, and Walmart Pickup Towers.

“It’s like a vending machine where folks can walk up to the tower and within seconds get their packages that they ordered on Walmart.com,” said Hatfield.

In addition, autonomous floor scrubbers and fast unloaders to sort and scan truck deliveries will be added to assist Walmart employees.

Hatfield said online grocery pickup and delivery is extremely popular with customers. Walmart has specially trained employees who do the shopping for the customers.

“All you do is pull up. We put your groceries in your car. Our customers absolutely love it,” said Hatfield.
