The Iberia Parish School Board decided to vote in favor of a resolution asking Congress to prevent close to one million dollars in cuts for hitting their budget for special education.

Iberia Parish School Superintendent Dale Henderson says that the federal government's 2011 Budget Control Act calls for automatic cuts to federal programs.  The programs that will be cut include the Title One program and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Each of those programs brings in 4 and 1/2 million dollars each year for the school board's budget.  They use those funds to maintain their special education programs throughout the district.

The resolution passed by the Iberia Parish School Board states that they may have to cut their budget by making layoffs.  They are hopeful the federal funding will stay intact.
