I've always been amazed at how bees make honey - I mean, how do you turn nectar into honey by flapping your wings? I don't know, but I'm glad they do it.

Sorry, I digress - let's get back to this experience.

An Airbnb Experience in Baton Rouge will walk you through the process of how bees make honey, and how that honey is harvested.

The "Bee Experience and Honey Tasting" Airbnb Experience is part of Airbnb's "Animals" collection of experiences the company offers.

In this experience, Kevin, the host, will get you up close and personal with a real, working beehive.

You'll learn how beekeepers (like Kevin) care for beehives and provide them with the proper environment for them to thrive.

You'll learn about ways you can alter your lifestyle to help save the bees.

You'll learn about how you can create your own bee colony and produce delicious honey, all while helping farmers, gardeners, and anyone who eats fruits and vegetables (because without the bees pollinating plants, we'd be in a bind!).

Of course, the host will take every precaution to keep you protected from the bees, as their main form of defense is using their pesky stingers.

You'll be outfitted with a beekeeping suit, which is very effective in protecting you from getting stung (if you are beekeeping properly, your chances of getting stung can be low).

You will also be taught how to inspect a bee hive (not in a classroom - at an actual beehive).

They will also teach you how to harvest honey, directly from a real honeycomb.

Of course, what's best about this experience is that you'll be able to taste different types of honey from different beehives.

According to the Airbnb listing, there are three locations in the Baton Rouge area where you can have your experience.

The honey bee hives are located in your choice of three bee rescue apiaries in the Baton Rouge area (Health Food Store Community Garden, Meditation Temple garden or Rural Life Field). - Airbnb

Kevin keeps the size of the groups to a minimum (10 max), allowing you more 1-on-1 time to ask questions.

Earlier I said that the best part of this experience is tasting the honey. Well, the fact that proceeds from this experience are donated to bee rescue, bee relocation, and bee education is icing on the cake. Or, better yet - honey on the cornbread!
