An Acadiana State Senate Seat Is Up For Grabs
Louisiana Senate President John Alario decided last month that the special election for candidates for Senate District Seat 26 will be held November 6 which coincides with other elections and issues on the ballot.
The seat will be available after State Senator Jonathan Perry, the current Senator, was elected to a position on the Louisiana Court of Appeal, Third Circuit, after he was the only candidate to qualify for the seat last month.
Qualifying for the seat will take next week starting on Wednesday, August 8 and continuing through Friday, August 10.
District 26 is comprised of Vermilion Parish along with some sections of Lafayette, St. Landry and Acadia Parishes.
If you live in one of these parishes you can go to your local Clerk of Court's Office to sign up to run for office. Click here for a list.
In Lafayette, the Clerk of Court's Office is on the second floor of the Lafayette Parish Courthouse.
Officials say there are several qualifications that interested candidates must meet in order to sign up to run for the job. Click here for the information from the Louisiana Senate.
Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court's Office wants to remind potential candidates that the qualifying fee can only be paid with cash, a cashier's check or a certified check that originates from a national or state bank, money order or a U.S. Postal Service money order.
