A 6-month-old infant has died in Baton Rouge after being left in a vehicle.

WBRZ reports that the deputies are investigating the death of the infant after it was left in a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office say that the infant's parent left home with the child in the vehicle, but never dropped their child off at daycare. They reportedly went straight to work, forgetting their child was in the vehicle.

Sadly, the parent realized they left their child in the vehicle all day after they left work and started to head towards the daycare.

An autopsy is being performed on the infant to determine if charges will be filed.

Recent studies show that temperatures in a vehicle during the summer can exceed 130 degrees within just 30 minutes.

We want to use this time to remind you to never leave anyone or anything in your vehicle this summer, even if you are exiting it for just a short time. Remember to always survey your vehicle before exiting.
