51 year old Mervin J. Noel of Breaux Bridge was sentenced today to six months in prison, six months in home confinement and three years supervised release. In addition Noel was ordered to pay $138,247 in restitution. This sentence was handed down after Noel's guilty plea for lying to Louisiana's Workforce Compensation Corporation about being disabled after an oil platform injury sustained in 1994. In 2007 Noel began a lawn care business without informing the LWCC or Social Security Administration. In April of 2014 Noel appeared in person before SSA officials and falsely reported he had not worked since becoming disabled.
