If given the choice between being arrested or taking your chances running across Interstate 10 traffic which would you choose? One alleged shoplifter chose the latter and still found himself facing charges.

Police in Breaux Bridge were summoned to the Walmart there over the weekend for help with a reported shoplifting crime. The loss prevention officer with the Walmart store reported that a man, identified as Luke Martin, had taken several items from the store and was attempting to flee the scene.

The loss prevention officer said that Martin ran through the parking lot of a nearby car dealership and into traffic on busy Interstate 10. After successfully navigating the dangerous crossing of the high-speed roadway Martin then attempted to hide inside a camper at a nearby RV dealership.

Once employees of the RV dealership learned what was going on they actually locked Martin inside the camper unit until police arrived. He was arrested at the scene and charged with theft of goods.
