The continuing legal saga of suspended Lafayette City Marshal Brian Pope has taken another legal turn. According to reports, Pope's legal counsel filed a motion last week that would ask a judge to dismiss malfeasance in office charges against Pope. These 17 charges are dating back to 2018.

In those charges, Marshal Pope was accused of supplementing his salary with court fees meant for his office. His legal team's motion is scheduled to be heard by District Judge John Trahan on February 6.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pope has qualified to run for Lafayette Parish Republican Executive Committee. He has qualified for that April election to run as an at-large member. He is one of a dozen people who qualified to run for one of five seats on that body.
