Caddo Parish Commissioner Indicted For Stealing From Nonprofit
Today 54 year old Michael Dwayne Williams was indicted on twelve counts of defrauding the Caddo Parish Commission and stealing from a nonprofit meant to help at-risk youth.
Williams was a Caddo Parish Commissioner and it's alleged he took more than $2,000 from the bank account of SWAG Nation. Williams had urged members of the Parish Commission to allocate funds for the nonprofit and after an ATM card was issued it's alleged he removed money from the account on numerous occasions.
Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator said of the arrest,
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office investigated Williams for several months and we are pleased with the return of this indictment. Unfortunately, there are people elected to office who will abuse the public's trust. This money was meant for children, not politicians.
Williams faces up to 20 years in prison, five years supervised release and a $250,000 fine on each of the twelve counts of the indictment.
