Cajuns on the Road to Face App State
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns begin a two game road swing tonight as they face the Appalachian State Mountaineers at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, NC. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 (CST) and can be heard on HOT 107.9 (KHXT-FM) beginning at 5:30.
Louisiana (13-7, 4-3 Sun Belt) is coming off a home sweep of the Alabama schools, having beaten South Alabama 88-84 and Troy, 86-81 in their last two outings. In those two games, the Cajuns were led by JaKeenan Gant. who was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks.
Appalachian State (6-14, 1-6) won its first league game in its last outing, defeating Little Rock on the road. The Mountaineers have played five of their first seven league games away from the Holmes Center where they have a 5-2 record this year. Of their six conference losses, four have come by six points or fewer.
Appalachian State is led by the guard tandem of senior Ronshad Shabazz and sophomore Justin Forrest. The two have combined for 34 points per game. Shabazz is a preseason first team all league player. Isaac Johnson also scores in double figures (10.1) and leads the Sun Belt in rebounding (8.9).
The Cajuns have never lost to App State, leading the all time series 8-0. Six of those wins have come since the Mountaineers have joined the Sun Belt. Louisiana hammered App State 78-45 at the Cajundome in the only meeting between the two teams last season.
Following tonight's game the Cajuns will head to Conway, South Carolina to face Coastal Carolina Saturday at 1:00 (CST)
