City Of Walker Billed $1.3 Million For 1998 Work
WALKER, La. (AP) — Walker Mayor Bobby Font says the city has received a $1.3 million bill for work done in 1998.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/ObSkky ) that the bill was for utility relocation work as part of a $5.5 million highway widening project.
A state transportation department spokeswoman says the state had a contract with the city and billed the city for the work in 2003
Font said the bill wasn't paid by two previous administrations and it wasn't on his radar because the work occurred so long ago.
He said the transportation department wants the first payment in 30 days or it will no longer grant permits to the city.
Font said the new expense will cause problems for the city even though it only has to pay $130,000 this month.
