Crackdown On Underage Drinking
Twenty-five people under the age of twenty-one were arrested during the Mardi Gras weekend in St. Landry Parish.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says he will not tolerate underage drinking in the parish.
Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux says the breakdown is as follows:
- Three tickets were issued to people age 16.
- Two tickets were issued to people age 17.
- Three tickets were issued to people age 18.
- Ten tickets were issued to people age 19.
- Seven tickets were issued to people age 20.
Guidroz says underage drinking is deemed, by some, as okay during prom season. Guidroz says that simply not the case.
He had this to say,
"The problem lies with the supervision at parties where there is a presence of alcohol and the minors are allowed to consumer alcohol. Anyone hosting a party or serving alcohol to minors should be aware that they could be held criminally and personally liable for the actions of their guests while at their party or leaving an alcohol establishment."
Guidroz says he has told the entire department to fully investigate any claims of underage drinking.
If you buy, give or sponsor an event where alcohol is allowed to be consumed by someone underage you will be charged.
