Governor Bobby Jindal announces proposed legislation to extend death benefits for families of National Guardsmen. The governor says the bill would correct an oversight that omitted servicemen and women who were killed or disabled in the War on Terror.  The bill would make the $250-thousand death benefit and the $100-thousand disability benefit retroactive to 9-11-2001. The governor says the bill represents an unwavering commitment to support the Louisiana National Guard, and the families that support them.
Jindal says the bill will enable benefits to the survivors of 35 Louisiana National Guardsmen who lost their lives dating back to the Attack on America in 2001. The bill means a commitment of $8.75-million from the state.
