DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (AP) — The Denham Springs City Council has approved an amended tree ordinance.

The Advocate reports the council tabled proposed limits on tree trimming last month after utility company objections to the proposal.

The ordinance the council unanimously passed Tuesday includes changes that deal with the utility company objections concerning what companies can do within the areas where they have rights of way.

The new ordinance still requires utility companies to use "modern agricultural standards" to avoid unsightly trimming.

The ordinance also gives the city the power to remove dead or diseased trees at the expense of property owners if the trees pose a hazard to life, to public property or to the property of others.
