UPDATE: A Patterson teen was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and terrorizing for an incident at Patterson High School Thursday afternoon.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested 17-year-old Jacob Bankston after he allegedly made false statements threatening violence at Patterson High School.

Sheriff's spokesperson Lt. Traci Landry said a school resource officer was contacted by the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline about a student having a gun on campus.

After Bankston was identified and located, deputies detained him and started a search of the school that yielded no gun.

Detectives did find evidence that Bankston intentionally made false statements threatening violence at the school.

He was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center.

No bail was set at the time of the release.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Deputies are investigating reports of a weapon on campus at Paterson High School.

Deputies have detained one subject as part of the investigation.

Sheriff's spokesperson Lieutenant Traci Landry said no threat to students or administrators has been located, but deputies will remain on campus as a precaution as the investigation continues.

Students are being dismissed as regularly scheduled.

The school is in the process of notifying parents about the incident which remains under investigation.
