Louisiana Officer Arrested on Child Pornography and Animal Abuse Charges

A Louisiana police officer was arrested late last week for possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant for charges of pornography involving juveniles and sexual abuse of an animal.

The arrested officer, 31-year-old Javon Charles of Bayou Vista, Louisiana, was taken into custody shortly after 2:00 pm on Friday, February 28, 2025.

On February 14 an officer was assigned to a case of possible malfeasance of a local law enforcement officer. Through that investigation, detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for the phone that belonged to Charles, and subsequently found pornographic images of children on the device.

Additionally, videos depicting pornography with animals were also discovered on the device during the search.

Then on February 28, 2025, authorities made contact with Charles at a residence in Bayou Vista and a search warrant was executed. It was then that drug paraphernalia was found in the residence and Charles was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking.

Bail was not set at that time.

Between the initial complaint on February 14 to his arrest on February 28, Charles was separated from the Patterson Police Department and was employed by the Jeanerette Police Department.
