Rep. Jeff Arnold, D-Algiers, has proposed a bill that would add a second to yellow lights on traffic signals. Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel joined "Nathan and Bernie in the Morning" to discuss the proposed legislation and the impact it would have on Lafayette traffic.

"My opinion is I’d rather let trained experts make decisions rather than politicians who are just trying to get their name in the paper," said Durel.

The City-Parish President insists that caution light length standards are determined by traffic engineers at the federal government level and should not be arbitrarily adjusted by politicians.

Durel believes changing the length of yellow lights at this point would have a negative impact on public safety.

The proposed yellow light lengthening legislation is currently being considered by Louisiana legislators.
