BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — State prosecutors say a former Allen Parish sheriff's deputy has been convicted of malfeasance in office for buying more than $24,000 in gas with an office credit card, selling it and pocketing the profit.

Attorney General James D. "Buddy" Caldwell says an Allen Parish jury on Thursday found 46-year-old Patrick Buxton guilty of illegally using the office's credit card.

Prosecutors say Buxton filled industrial-sized storage drums with gasoline and resold the fuel for personal gain.

Prosecutors say the sheriff's office in 2012 noticed the high fuel bills on the card during a financial review.

State District Judge E. David Deshotels ordered Buxton into house arrest pending sentencing. He faces five years in prison.

Buxton had been a sheriff's deputy for more than a decade before he resigned in 2012.
