The FBI and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's office are seeking the person or persons responsible for hanging a noose-like knot from a willow tree along the Mississippi River batture in Belle Chasse.

The words "White Power" were also found written on the cement levee embankment.

"We don't know the intentions," said Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Commander Eric Becnel. "We are looking into the matter. At the very least we have criminal trespassing and vandalism."

Becnel said the letter "K" was also spray painted twice on a tree.

The noose and the white supremacist graffiti were found by Highway 23. Becnel said the area is predominantly an African-American community.

"You know that kind of behavior is totally unacceptable and has no place in Plaquemines Parish or anywhere in our country," Becnel said.

Anyone with information should contact the FBI New Orleans Field Office or the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's office.
